Who cares about Canadian sovereignty anyway? Not our lefties and greeniacs–many so-called Canadian “nationalists”–who want the Obama administration effectively to control an important Canadian policy:
Green jobs, yes we can. Tar sands, no we can’t.

Dear President Obama,

Greenpeace activists scaled a bridge in the Canadian capital on Wednesday [Feb. 18] and unfurled two large banners urging U.S. President Barack Obama to take a tough stand on Canada’s huge oil sands when he visits on Thursday.
“Climate Leaders Don’t Buy Tar Sands” read one of the banners, which faced toward Parliament…
On the other hand, imagine the reaction had this happened: when Jean Chrétien was prime minister prominent Canadian conservatives and free-marketers suggest the Bush administration do its best to force Canada to establish an open border with the US, to facilitate trade–along with the two countries’ adopting a common external border with the same entry requirements and procedures (à la EU, with a few exceptions)–to keep out terrorists and extremists. Hah!
