Another sign of the Detroit Three’s hard times

Take a look at all the vehicles in this story:

The vehicles owned by the Obama administration’s auto team could reflect one reason why Detroit’s Big Three automakers are in trouble: The list includes few new American cars.
Among the eight members named Friday to the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry and the 10 senior policy aides who will assist them in their work, two own American models. Add the Treasury Department’s special adviser to the task force and the total jumps to three…

This really warms my heart:

Diana Farrell, the deputy National Economic Council director, doesn’t own a vehicle. Her husband, Scott Pearson, owns a 1985 Peugeot 505 S.

From 1984 to 1986 I drove a Peugeot 505 STi while living in Belgrade. Great car, could cruise the German autobahns at 160 kph in great comfort, and handled well.

Damian adds: what’s the lesson here? Probably, that these guys are more concerned about quality and performance than country of origin. If the United States must have a Presidential task force on the auto industry, I guess this is the kind of person who should be on it.

Congrats. I’ve never owned one but know someone who did and was a frequent passenger. It was one of the most comfortable cars I’ve been in – not sure about the reliability though.

Wellll… we may take a clue from Mark’s post below:
“As Commissar [of Auto Design, Manufacturing and Subsidies] sees it, the “[Industrial]” Code is not merely a set of laws to be applied to all citizens equally, but has [IDEOLOGICAL OBJECTIVES] which take precedence.”
No “task force” or “czar” made the US history’s most successful industrial giant or most prosperous people or greatest force for freedom. Every society and jurisdiction that has tried this model is failing or has already failed. “Ideology” and “good intentions” and “social justice” Don’t. Work.
That’s the lesson. The ferocity of the move tells one that perhaps… that’s the objective.

The Pelosi GTxi SS/RT Sport Edition coming soon to a Congressional Motors dealer near you!

(Okay, it’s already been posted all over the Internet, but it’s still funny.)
