“Hollywood Uber Alles”

Allahpundit, John Nolte and Nick Gillespie savage the entertainment community for its support of a man who plead guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl and then fled the country. Allah:

If there was substantial [prosecutorial] misconduct, why not come back to LA and litigate the matter at an appellate level? Answer: Because Polanski and his cretinous supporters don’t care if he’s guilty or not. They want him to walk free, in the name of “art,” without another word spoken on the subject.

As Gillespie notes, Polanski’s victim has forgiven him. This may be a mitigating factor on sentencing, but it doesn’t change the fact that he plead guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl and then fled the country.
Nolte asks the million-dollar question: “what exactly would Roman Polanski have to do in order to become a pariah in this town … I mean, besides vote for Sarah Palin?”

    “Polanski’s victim has forgiven him.”
More precisely, Samantha Geimer received a settlement in the civil suit she brought against him. And why:
    1) Is everyone pretending her name is a big secret? She “outed” herself a long time ago.
    2) Are members of the press using the term “allegedly” in referring to a crime Polanski pled guilty to?

I believe, in fact, that he *drugged* and raped said 13-yr old. Just in case it wasn’t horrible enough.
In the US — much more so than here, thankfully, but one worries — there is a solidarity amongst media and entertainment figures and others who travel in the same circles which leads to behaviour which is really unhealthy for democracy.
For the last 8ish years, liberals in the US have been decrying this; it’s almost impossible to get the media/political elite in the states to call out each other for outright lies or illegal behaviour.
Before I lived in the states for a number of years I might have hoped that this would be the case which would be so obvious and so sickening that it would finally break this code of complicity; but now I think it’s hopeless, at least for a generation, and the best one can do is try to fight to prevent this attitude from becoming too entrenched in Canada.

Not just drugged. Not just raped. Drugged and raped anally. But hey, in Hollywood-Commiewood that sounds pretty F@#$@$ cool man, like a new-age love story or something where the victim blossoms wonderfully after the encounter.
Well, I long ago gave up listening to coked-up idiot entertainers for advice on morality, or on any subject. Polanski will rot in hell and I do hope he gets there soon. Hang him at the corner of Hollywood and Vine as a reminder to the rest of his putrid supporters of what fate awaits the next ‘artist’ who rapes a kid.

Well, it’s a bit like with Teddy Kennedy, eh? He advocated policies and programs that pleased the bien-pensant left, so it didn’t matter that he was a philandering drunk who killed a woman through his carelessness. Polanski made several movies that pleased the same crowd – and besides, his wife was killed by the Manson Family, so he gets a pass, right?
