Unlike many other Formula One fans, I’m keeping an open mind about the move to turbo engines this season. The last turbo era was when I fell in love with the sport, after all.
That said, this preview of the new Mercedes-Benz engine note isn’t encouraging:
Hopefully the racing will be good enough to make up for what sounds like a really, really big Dyson. For my money, they will never top the Chrysler-Lamborghini V12 from the early 1990s:
Ayrton Senna wanted McLaren to use this engine halfway through the 1993 season, and Ron Dennis had a handshake deal for Lamborghini power in 1994 – until he went with the ill-fated Peugeot motor instead. Who knows what might have been?
